BT Infinity - fibre to the street box.  

BT Infiinty offers speeds approaching 40Mb down and up to 10Mb up by providing fibre-optic cable between the exchange and the box in the street near your house. It is converted back to copper at that point and delivered to your premises in exactly the same way. Fibre-optic cable has very little loss over relatively short distances so it's really like moving the telephone exchange to the end of your street. No more worry whether you are too far away from the exchange to get a decent speed! Did you know you can speed up the installation in your area by signing up to an expression of interest with no obligation. BT need 1000 people in any area to fast track that exchange.

Duston exchange in Northampton (my local exchange) is currently over 2000th on the list - why is this when Northampton central and Weston Favel already have Infinity? All we can do is vote for your local exchange. Just put your phone number in the checker and if it isn't availabe register an interest. As a local business that depends on fast broadband to deliver our services we simply can't wait years for this to be delivered. We want Infinity - and we want it now.....

UPDATE - The first of the FTTC cabinets have been installed. Duston exchange should be live by the end of March 2012 - Hooray!
